I went in for routine lab work for his new job and was shocked when the doctor diagnosed me with Type 2 diabetes. I feel perfectly healthy, have plenty of energy, and haven't noticed any symptoms. How is it possible to have diabetes without feeling sick?

Yes, it is very common to be diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes without feeling any symptoms at all. In the early stages, the body can often compensate for insulin resistance. Blood sugar levels may rise so gradually over years that you simply adapt to the "new normal" without noticing the subtle changes. By the time noticeable symptoms like extreme thirst or blurred vision appear, blood sugar has usually been elevated for quite some time. This is why routine screening is vital, especially for individuals over 35 or those with risk factors like a family history.
